Tony was one of my first art teachers in 1976 in Aguadilla. I was 16 and I would go to his school (I think it was called Francisco Oller, or Aguadilla Art Center) every Saturday. It was the best. I learned so much from him, and he was encouraging and positive, and gave me great confidence in my own work. I even had a solo art show in his Gallery! He was incredibly kind and generous with his students. I remember he once took his class to paint the ocean views from the beautiful farm land where he lived with his wife Susan and their kid. I remember it was very windy and sand was blowing and my oil panting fell down on the floor. It got all messed up and full of debris and sand, I was devastated. Tony convinced me that it was all part of the process and that the painting was still good. I trusted him and kept on working on it and ceased the rest of the day. It turned out ok after all. He was terrific. Those arts school days are some of the best memories from those years of my adolescence. I will always remember my Great Teacher Tony with deep gratitude and love.
